Controls contractors know that every additional piece of hardware adds time, overhead, and complexity to a project. ASI Controls has taken steps to make its programmable controls more lean and flexible by adding multiport MS/TP routing to ASIC/3-9540 and -9520 controllers.

With multiport MS/TP routing, the ASIC/3-9540 and -9520 devices now have an expanded network range which decreases the hard costs of routing, simplifies system architecture, and reduces points of failure. This new feature allows ASIC/3 controllers to communicate using BACnet MS/TP on all RS-485 ports and can provide BACnet IP to MS/TP routing across all MA/TP buses. Plus, with up to 32 loads on each RS-485 port, the need for a standalone router is virtually eliminated in single building applications. Projects using wide area networks still require a BAC-ROUTE router as the ASIC/3 routing functionality does not yet offer BACnet/IP Broadcast Management Device (BBMD) capabilities.

ASIC/3-9540 and -9520 controllers are currently shipping with the expanded routing capability. To learn more, consult the product data sheet or contact technical support.

ASI Controls is pleased to announce initial availability of the BTL B-BC certified ASIC/3-6115 fully-programmable VAV controller, which blends the power and flexibility of freely programmed devices with application-specific intelligence and cost-effectiveness of unitary controllers.

The next-generation ASIC/3-6115 expands ASI Controls’ {IN}telligent Network™ line of digital control products while preserving the company’s unique commitment to backward compatibility.

CEO Francis Chapman stated, “adding the convenience of canned sequences to the scalability of programmable logic gives system integrators new cost-effective options to meet today’s airflow distribution control requirements, and we’re proud to say it is made in the USA!”

The ASIC/3-6115 is fully compatible with industry standard front ends like Niagara Framework™ as well as ASI IntelliFront™ and ASI Weblink. Native ASIC/3 objects enable rapid development of complex control sequences which can extend or replace the convenient pre-programmed sequences of control provided by ASI Controls to handle standard air distribution applications.

“The 6115 offers all of the advantages of the ASI line in a powerful, compact, energy-saving package, along with a compelling 5-year warranty” Mike Fong (COO) said. For applications requiring the versatility of a fully-programmable controller but only needing limited I/O the new ASIC/3-6115 offers significant cost savings versus high point count supervisory controllers.

Customers have the option to use a library of predefined parameters for common VAV applications or customize the controller through ASI Visual Expert to utilize ready-made objects including scheduling, logic, PID control, alarming, optimum start, trending, run-time accumulation, and electrical demand management.

The ASIC/3-6115-DD variant includes two airflow sensors and an integrated Belimo actuator for dual duct and VAV tracking applications. The ASIC/3-6115 is currently undergoing field tests and will be fully available in Fall 2018.

Building owners can now fine tune the efficiency of building’s HVAC system with the release of the new Damper Position Feedback feature for the ASIC/1-6100-DFA. Damper Position Feedback on our integrated Belimo actuators allows for precise determination of the exact damper position.

Using a 0-10VDC or 4-to 20 MA signals from either the actuator or as part of a control sequence, building managers can see damper positions in real time and visualize those positions from a front end system, such as ASI IntelliFront.

One of the major benefits of Damper Position Feedback is its advanced fault detection. In large buildings, such as a hospital, which may utilize hundreds of valves or actuators, the process of troubleshooting a fault can take weeks to accomplish. A technician must visually confirm the position of each damper to locate the issue. Utilizing Damper Position Feedback, a controls operator can pinpoint the problem from their desktop.

For buildings which use ASI IntelliFront, the controls operator can verify damper positions from their phone before even arriving on site.

The ASIC/1-6100-DFA with Damper Position Feedback is available through the store.asicontrols.com.

We need room for new inventory! For a limited time, we will discount our remaining stock of the BACnet only version of our ASIC/1-6100 unitary controllers. The controller allows digital control of pressure independent Variable Air Volume (VAV), and Fan-Powered VAV terminal units.

This sale does not apply to the dual protocol version of the ASIC/1-6100. Contact a member of our sales department to order before we run out!

ASI recently completed a promotional video touting the new IntelliFront building management interface and has added IntelliFront Product Information [PDF] to the website.

For the uninitiated, ASI IntelliFront is our next-generation building management interface. IntelliFront creates a seamless and full-featured system experience across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices. The configure-once and reuse approach makes building custom graphics, navigation, data point information, histories, alarms, and schedules incredibly fast and easy. IntelliFront uses the latest industry and commercial protocols including REST interfaces and Haystack tagging, which means it is ready for the cloud and IoT applications.

A special thank you to J2 Innovations for their assistance with creating the video and for their continued partnership in making IntelliFront such a huge success. To learn more about integrating IntelliFront in to your next project, contact a member of our sales team!

There are a few spots left for the next Essential Training class scheduled for APRIL 23-27, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Essential Training is a four-day course that teaches you how to program our ASIC/1 and ASIC/3 controllers and engineer a project using our IntelliFront front end. For customers seeking IntelliFront certification, there is a certification lab exercise on day five. Essential Training is a pre-requisite for Advanced Training classes. This course is intended for new users to learn how to design and configure control systems using ASI Controls products.
