ASI Controls/Exor ePAD04

ASI/ePAD04
Exor ePAD04

Quick Specs

The ePAD04 uses a 24 Vdc power supply.
It is ready to be mounted in a enclosure panel door, or a similar type installation.

Application Overview

The ePAD04 can be used to talk to either multiple ASIC/1 controllers or multiple ASIC/2 controllers. It has the capability to password-protect either points, pages or both.

It can receive alarms from an ASIC/2 controller, and show a custom string messages on it's screen. When alarms are cleared, they are moved to an events log in the ePAD04.

The ePAD04 has a clock, but it is not battery powered. It is possible to sync the ePAD04 clock with the clock from an ASIC/2 controller.

Communications

The ePAD04 can be used on either the System Bus or the Local Bus of an ASIC/2. It uses the RS-485 standard to communicate with the ASI hardware, so it can located rather far from the closest controller.

The ePAD04 does use a gap setting in its communication settings, but it does not give the communication bus up freely to allow other controllers to talk. Therefore, when you apply the ePAD04 you will need to give strong consideration to how you lay out the communication paths. Contact ASI Controls for help with network considerations.

One of the best ways to control the communication of an ePAD involves forcing the ePAD to a page that does not have any points on it. An ASIC/2 controller can decide which page the ePAD is currently showing, thus giving some control to limiting ePAD04 communication bus traffic.

Applications

The ePAD04 can be used as an interface for a collection of standalone ASIC/1 controllers.

It can also be used as a local panel interface to an ASIC/2.

Exor Designer 6

FIRST, extract Designer v6.02 ZIP file contents (41 MB; 09/15/2003) to a temporary folder, THEN, from the temp folder launch the file Setup.exe and do a complete installation to get Designer v6.02

NEXT, download Designer v6.06 (57 MB; 10/03/2006) to a temporary directory, THEN open the downloaded file (6060101-UniOP-Int-en.exe) and an InstallShield setup wizard will guide you through an update to the latest version (Designer 6.06)

ASI/Exor Drivers

The ePAD04 only supports the use of one driver for an application. You may communicate with ASIC/1s or ASIC/2s but not both.

Note: Designer 6.02 Install does NOT have the latest ASI Drivers, even though they may have later date stamps. Overwrite the Designer 6.02 drivers with the latest from ASI.

Extract drivers and copy into the Designer 6 folder.

To install the new driver:

1) Copy the driver to your Designer directory.
2) Open Designer, go to "projects", "configure controllers",
3) Pull down the controllers list and click on "refresh".
The new version is shown, for example 4.03 dll 5.04.
4) Open Controller Setup and you will find a new parameter, Message Gap (ms): Set to 50 ms .. 1000 ms.

You may also set the message gap parameter in ASI Expert to 70 ms .. 150 ms, so that the ePAD and ASI Expert will share the communications line.
