ASI Controls Adds Support for Modbus Protocol
San Ramon, CA – ASI Controls announced today that it has added support for the Modbus RTU master protocol to the ASIC/2 line of configurable controllers.
“Customers and prospects expressed strong interest in a Modbus interface for ASI Controls systems, and ASI is pleased to deliver a working solution,” explained Mashuri Waren, Ph. D. P.E., ASI Controls Director of Product Development. “Modbus connectivity is a great complement to ASI’s existing support for OPC, providing more interoperability options for OEM customers and ASI Controls resellers.”
Both the ASIC/2-7540, featuring USB plug-and-play Ethernet or Modem connectivity, and the smaller ASIC/2-8540, with on-board Ethernet connectivity, now support the Modbus RTU Master protocol. These configurable controllers can directly read from and write to Modbus RTU slave devices over the secondary communication bus, enhancing control options for many variable speed drives, power meters, Chillers, lighting controls, digital communicating thermostats, room pressure monitors, etc. The Modbus interface is easily configured for specific applications using ASI Visual Expert, a graphical programming interface.
“ASI customers plan to utilize Modbus connectivity in a variety of applications,” added Francis Chapman, ASI Controls Marketing Director. “It is especially useful for energy management and control systems, where VFD’s, lighting panels and other Modbus devices can play an important role in reducing energy intensity.”
